Aspen Medical in Fuji: The Shocking Truth
I figured it was high time we had an article detailing the many ways in which we Fijians are being shortchanged when it comes to medical care. This is crucial considering the severity of the COVID-19 tragedy in Fiji. Our encounter with COVID-19 has been unique compared to that of other countries since we did not have a healthcare infrastructure in place that could withstand the epidemic. Tragically, thousands of individuals have died as a result. The government of Fiji thought it had discovered a solution to this problem when it secured an arrangement with Aspen Medical to have the business take over two of the country’s biggest hospitals and remodel them with cutting-edge equipment critical to the population’s well-being. However, neither of these events appears to have occurred. Aspen Medical has continuously let us down, as well as the hospital network for which they are responsible, notwithstanding the agreement.
Aspen Medical was tasked with taking over the operations of two hospitals, Lautoka and Ba. The deadline was set for June 2021, which would have given them enough time to renovate both buildings, yet it remains undone. Lautoka Hospital closed in May 2021 because it was unable to cope with the surge of COVID-19 cases occurring in close proximity due to a shortage of capacity for new patients, pushing us past the deadline for operations. Right now, there is only a small amount of COVID-19 vaccines available for distribution among those who need them most, leading to an awful situation where we’ve spent all these resources without anything coming back our way.
Aspen Medical failed to keep its promises. Despite spending millions of dollars, our hospitals haven’t improved. Aspen Medical has failed to deliver on its promise to upgrade our healthcare system. Despite spending millions of dollars each year, we still have the same facilities that we had before this corporation came along. Aspen Medical has failed to live up to their promises and make the necessary changes for a better healthcare system. A rise in COVID-19 instances, variants, and fatalities is causing Fiji to collapse. We may not make it out alive if the necessary infrastructure is not in place. With the growing anxiety about the Delta version, we don’t have much time. We must keep fighting because we’ve already lost far too many of our people. This is due to our government not putting enough pressure on Aspen Medical to fulfill their contract with us.
Aspen Medical failed to deliver on its promises to give us a modern healthcare system. Please help us by exerting pressure on Aspen Medical to carry out its obligations so that our residents can once again be safeguarded. We need you to act immediately.
